Border guards have identified more than 5,400 Ukrainian citizens who crossed illegally into Romania in the first seven months of this year, down from 7,680 in the same period last year. They benefit from temporary protection due to the war in Ukraine. But there have also been cases of migrant smuggling, including arrests of Ukrainian nationals acting as guides. Police are working with various authorities and NGOs to provide support and assistance to those in difficulty at the border.
