The decision to abandon the e-Proprietatea program, which provided for the taxation of properties according to market value, was taken in the context of the financial crisis of the municipalities. Economic expert Adrian Negrescu points out that taxation based on market value would have led to significant tax hikes, especially for properties in central areas. With the 70% increase, the government is looking for quick solutions to help municipalities hit by rising costs.
