Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said that the lifting of the energy price cap, scheduled for July 1, may generate panic and speculation on the market, which could lead to price hikes. He advised consumers to compare suppliers' offers and switch supplier if they find better deals, to stimulate competition. Burduja noted that energy prices are set by the market, not by the ministry, and highlighted the accumulated debts of several billion lei as a result of subsidies. The impact of the cap scheme on the state budget was estimated at 30 billion lei.
