The eruption will take place in the T Coronae Borealis system, 3,000 light-years from Earth. This system contains a white dwarf and a red giant, and the eruption occurs when matter from the red giant accumulates on the white dwarf, triggering a runaway reaction. The last eruption occurred in 1946 and the next one is expected in the next 80 years.
