OpenAI is preparing to launch its new artificial intelligence model, the GPT-5, in early August.

The launch follows a series of delays related to infrastructure upgrades, extensive safety assessments and internal testing. The new model will unify the capabilities of OpenAI's 'o-series' reasoning tools into a single, more powerful system. The GPT-5 will be available through both ChatGPT and the OpenAI API, and will have a 'mini' version for less intensive tasks, as well as a 'nano' version specifically designed for developers.
