NISAR, a nearly 3-ton radar satellite to be launched from India, will transform the way we monitor the Earth. Using synthetic aperture radar technology, NISAR can capture images through clouds and smoke, providing free high-resolution data on soil moisture, flooded vegetation and elevation changes. This satellite will support climate research and aid disaster management, with extensive coverage of Antarctica and the ability to track global environmental change.
