London will introduce driverless cars in the summer, through a robotaxi service developed by Wayve.

London is preparing to become the first European metropolis to have driverless cars, with the launch of robotaxis by the British company Wayve, scheduled for this summer. This initiative marks the beginning of the global expansion of the service, which will also reach other cities, such as Tokyo.

Wayve has been testing the technology on the streets of London since 2018 and will initially introduce dozens of vehicles, supervised by trained Uber drivers, to ensure safety and build public trust. Although there is no fixed timeline for the removal of drivers, safety remains the top priority.

Advances in artificial intelligence have accelerated the development of this technology, and Wayve integrates hardware directly into vehicles, giving them a "robotic brain" capable of perceiving the environment. The British government supports the regulation of autonomous technology, thus facilitating its implementation.
