China has granted commercial approval for a brain implant developed by Neuracle Medical Technology, intended for people with paralysis, marking the first real use of a brain-computer interface (BCI) device.

This system connects the human nervous system with digital devices, interpreting neural signals to allow users to control devices through thoughts. The implant detects brain signals related to the intention to move the hand and processes them, sending commands to a robotic hand that helps patients grasp objects. The device is intended for adults with severe spinal cord injuries, having strict eligibility criteria.

China is massively investing in BCI technology, considering it a strategic industry for the future. Approved in the context of a global competition for the commercialization of neural interface technologies, this innovation could transform rehabilitation and human-machine interaction in the next decade.
