Romanian-born microbiologist Agnes Ullmann will be honored on the Eiffel Tower alongside Marie Curie

Agnes Ullmann, a Romanian-born microbiology specialist, will be included on the frieze dedicated to female researchers at the Eiffel Tower, alongside 71 other women scientists, including Marie Curie. This initiative, announced by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, aims to recognize the often-overlooked contributions of women in science.

Ullmann, a naturalized French citizen in 1966, had a remarkable career, working at CNRS and the Pasteur Institute, where she advanced molecular biology and contributed to the development of vaccines. The project aims to engrave her name and those of other researchers on a frieze placed above the existing one, thus promoting inspiration for the younger generation of women in science. The list of names will be subject to approval by competent academies, ensuring the validity of this tribute.
