The international project “Elena Teodorini Centenary 1926–2026”, dedicated to marking 100 years since the death of the great Romanian soprano, was launched at Casa Giuseppe Verdi – Casa dei Musicisti in Milan. The initiative highlights Romania’s lyrical heritage and brings together institutions and artists from Romania, Italy, the Republic of San Marino and the Republic of Moldova between 25 September and 11 October 2026.
The initiative is organized by the Romanian-Sammarinese Cultural Association “Dacia Senza Frontiere”, in collaboration with the Italian-Romanian Cultural Centre in Milan, and is funded by the Department for Romanians Abroad with 160,000 lei. The project’s innovation lies in transforming historical research dedicated to Elena Teodorini into an international program of music, education and cultural diplomacy.
The choice of Milan carries special significance: Elena Teodorini came here at the age of 14 to study at the Conservatory and made her debut in 1880 on the stage of Teatro alla Scala. Soprano singers Mihaela Anghel and Daniela Ciociea, pianist Cecilia Ferreri and the “Nuova Polifonica Ambrosiana” Choir, conducted by Fabio Locatelli, attended the opening event.
The project is held under the patronage of the Embassy of Romania in Italy, San Marino and Malta and the State Secretariat for Education and Culture of San Marino. The program will continue from 7 to 11 October at Teatro Titano, with a classical singing masterclass, exhibitions, conferences, recitals, concerts and the presentation of a volume dedicated to the artist.
