A Zelensky adviser says that “no one will win” the Russo-Ukrainian war: “Both countries will have their economies destroyed”

Serhii Beskrestnov, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's adviser on defense technology, warns that Russia and Ukraine are entering a new phase of the war, dominated by long-range attacks on cities and infrastructure. In an interview with The Guardian, he said that the ground front is largely deadlocked, while civilians face growing risks hundreds of kilometers from the line of contact.

Beskrestnov fears that Russia could launch a sustained campaign this winter against Kyiv's electricity, water, and heating networks. He suggested that the authorities should consider the preventive evacuation of vulnerable people, especially the elderly, if the attacks cause major power outages.

The adviser claims that air defenses can no longer cope with the volume of missiles and drones used by both sides. Ukraine is also facing a shortage of Patriot interceptors, which are essential for stopping ballistic missiles.

In response, Kyiv intends to intensify attacks deep inside Russian territory, targeting factories, warehouses, and refineries. Beskrestnov says that Ukraine aims to reach approximately 1,000 drones launched daily and to disrupt even civilian air traffic in Russia. Alarmed by the escalation, he says that the war should be stopped, as both countries risk being left with severely damaged economies and infrastructure.
