Zbigniew Ziobro, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General in Poland, has announced that he is in the United States, where he recently arrived. He is accused of misappropriating funds intended for victims of crimes to purchase the Pegasus spyware, aimed at surveilling political opponents.
Ziobro denies the allegations, accusing the current government of a witch hunt against conservatives. Although he has obtained asylum in Hungary, the new Hungarian Prime Minister has stated that he will no longer offer refuge to individuals wanted by international justice, including Ziobro. The current Polish Minister of Justice, Waldemar Zurek, has requested clarifications from the United States and Hungary regarding Ziobro's entry into the U.S., considering that his travel documents have been revoked. Ziobro has stated that he is prepared to appear before the American court, describing the extradition procedures as demanding.
