The tragic incident occurred in April, when Byrne, who had no license, fatally struck an 81-year-old cyclist, throwing him 15 feet into the air. Video footage shows how the young man inhaled nitrous oxide both before and after the collision and tried to regain control of the vehicle. The judge described the offenses as 'exceptionally dangerous' and, in addition to the 11 years and 6 months sentence, Byrne received a driving ban of 17 years and 8 months.
