Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., allegedly asked a major Republican donor to pay a $100,000 debt to American Express six days before her Senate hearing, according to an investigation published by The Wall Street Journal.
The publication says it analyzed hundreds of messages, emails, and documents concerning the relationship between Guilfoyle and Eric Deters, a former attorney and Republican candidate from Kentucky. In a message sent via Signal in July 2025, Guilfoyle allegedly sent him instructions to make the payment urgently and suggested that the transaction would leave no visible traces.
Deters refused, claiming that the ambassador had promised him support with tax and legal problems in exchange for financial assistance. He says he had previously paid her approximately $300,000 to participate in political events and that he did not receive the promised results.
The investigation also describes alleged efforts by Guilfoyle with officials in the Trump administration on Deters's behalf, including in connection with a tax investigation and litigation. An FBI spokesperson, however, denied that she had intervened with the agency's director.
The ambassador's lawyer disputed the authenticity of the messages, while the U.S. Embassy stated that Guilfoyle had been vetted and confirmed by the Senate.
