U.S. President Donald Trump is considering dismissing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle after saying at the White House that he was not satisfied with her performance. Trump made the remarks following the publication of critical articles in The Wall Street Journal.
Asked whether he was considering replacing the ambassador, the U.S. president answered affirmatively, without providing details about a possible decision or a timeline for it.
The controversy was intensified by an article published by The Wall Street Journal on September 25, which examined Guilfoyle’s involvement in promoting agreements on the import of liquefied natural gas from the United States to Eastern Europe. According to the publication, the ambassador supported cooperation with Aktor Group, a Greek construction company that recently entered the gas market and is a partner of a state-backed Greek energy company.
American journalists also reported that Guilfoyle frequently attended meetings alongside Christos Marafatsos, an Aktor lobbyist. He was reportedly present at meetings held at the ambassador’s official residence and at discussions with government officials in the region, a practice described as unusual.
Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host, was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son. After the two split up, Trump appointed her ambassador to Greece.
