Experts believe the wreck discovered near Nosy Boraha island is the remains of the Portuguese ship Nossa Senhora do Cabo, attacked by pirate Olivier Levasseur in 1721. Researchers recovered more than 3,300 artifacts, including religious objects and valuables, estimating that the hidden treasure could be worth more than 138 million dollars. Levasseur, known for his mysterious code left before his execution, captured the ship carrying, among others, the Portuguese viceroy and slaves from Mozambique. The area remains of interest to archaeologists, with the potential to reveal other historic shipwrecks.
