Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, the 21-year-old young woman, died on Saturday, June 13, following a tragic bungee jumping accident from the Ponte do Esqueleto, known as the Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo. According to witnesses, the staff forgot to secure her safety rope before the jump, and the young woman fell from a height of approximately 40 meters.
A video posted on social media shows the moment she was thrown off the edge of the bridge, and witnesses alerted the staff about the lack of the rope. Although a helicopter was called for rescue, Maria died at the scene. The young woman, a graduate of the physical education faculty, had purchased a guided tour that included bungee jumping.
Following the incident, six people were brought in for questioning, and three men were arrested, being accused of intentional homicide. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident, emphasizing that the team did not have authorization to conduct the activity.
