The 2026 Winter Olympics have kicked off today in Milan-Cortina, with an opening ceremony promising a grand spectacle, featuring renowned artists such as Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli. Over 2,900 athletes from 90 Olympic committees will compete in 116 events, and the first medals will be awarded on February 7. The ceremony will include the parade of delegations and the lighting of the Olympic flame, key moments of the event. Romania will be represented by 29 athletes, with seven flag bearers, and the history of Romania's participation in the Winter Olympics includes a single bronze medal won in 1968. Additionally, three countries will debut at these games: Benin, Guinea-Bissau, and the United Arab Emirates. The medals are made from recycled materials, highlighting the commitment to sustainability.
