The airport in Vilnius, Lithuania, temporarily suspended operations on Sunday due to balloons heading towards its airspace, redirecting flights.

The airport operator has communicated that operations will resume at 1:30 AM local time. This is the ninth closure of Vilnius airport in October, in a context where European aviation has been affected by drone incursions. Lithuania accuses Belarus of allowing the use of weather balloons for smuggling, considering them a form of hybrid attack.

Last month, Lithuania closed its border crossing points with Belarus, but recently reopened them as the disruptions seemed to have ceased. Lukashenko called the border closures a "mad adventure," accusing the West of a hybrid war.
