The authoritarian government of Venezuela reacted vehemently to reports that Donald Trump had ordered airstrikes against the country, accusing the U.S. of "imperialist aggression" that risks destabilizing Latin America. Explosions and loud noises were heard in Caracas and in three other states, Miranda, La Guaira, and Aragua. In an official statement, the government emphasized that the attack aims to take control of Venezuela's strategic resources, especially oil and minerals. Authorities called on the international community to denounce this violation of international law and urged the population to mobilize against the attack. President Nicolás Maduro declared a state of emergency and ordered the implementation of national defense plans, announcing that Venezuela would file complaints with the UN and other international bodies.
