American Vice President J.D. Vance will travel to Hungary on April 7 and 8 to meet with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, just a few days before the legislative elections on April 12, which will decide his fate.

J.D. Vance, a critic of centrist European governments and a supporter of radical right-wing formations, will be accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, and will give a speech about the partnership between Hungary and the United States.

His visit is seen as a show of support for Orban, who is facing economic and social discontent, as well as fierce competition from opposition leader Peter Magyar. Analysts suggest that Orban could benefit from covert Russian assistance to boost his chances of re-election. The Hungarian Prime Minister's campaign has been criticized for its "toxic" nature and incendiary propaganda.

The Trump administration took an open stance in favor of leaders deemed compatible with its diplomatic priorities, and Vance joins other American officials who have recently visited Hungary to express their support.
