JD Vance on the 2028 election: He believes Donald Trump would support him if he ran

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Monday that Donald Trump would support him if he decided to run in the 2028 presidential election, although he noted that he had not discussed the matter with the president. He made the statement in an interview with political analyst Mark Halperin during the return flight from a Republican rally in North Carolina.

Vance did not confirm that he would seek the Republican Party’s nomination. He said he would decide on his political future after the midterm elections, scheduled for November 3. In June, the vice president said he would discuss the family’s next steps with his wife, Usha Vance.

Trump has mentioned both Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as possible 2028 candidates, without announcing an official endorsement. According to The Washington Post, however, Trump privately expressed his support for Vance to Republican donors.

During the rally in North Carolina, a protester publicly called for the release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The man was removed by security agents, and Vance suggested that he was an illegal immigrant. The statements come amid Trump and Vance’s national tour, taking place against the backdrop of Democrats’ advantage in polls on control of Congress and discontent over inflation and immigration.
