Democrats in the United States Senate are preparing an official inquiry into JPMorgan Chase’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, an investigation that is expected to begin in early 2027. The investigation will be coordinated by the Senate Finance Committee, led by Senator Ron Wyden, and will focus on the decisions through which the bank maintained Epstein’s accounts from 2006 to 2013, despite having been warned about allegations of the sexual exploitation of minors.
Investigators intend to request internal documents, emails, and sworn testimony. At the center of the inquiries is Mary Callahan Erdoes, head of JPMorgan’s wealth management division, who acknowledged in 2023 that she had been informed of the allegations as early as 2006. The bank maintains that it was not complicit in crimes and paid $365 million in 2023, without admitting liability, to victims and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The investigation could also target Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, as well as billionaire Leon Black, who paid Epstein $158 million. Epstein died in custody in August 2019 after being indicted for sex trafficking of minors.
