The European Commission accuses TikTok of violating European Union legislation through the way the platform is designed, claiming that features such as continuous video scrolling, autoplay, notifications, and the highly personalized recommendation system can create addiction among users. Preliminary findings show that the app has not sufficiently analyzed the impact of these features on mental health, especially in the case of minors, and has not implemented effective measures to limit compulsive use.

The European executive is demanding that the company modify its algorithm and service design, warning that if the irregularities are confirmed, TikTok risks a fine of up to 6% of its annual global revenue.
