The Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point is developing an innovative air defense system that promises to significantly reduce the costs of intercepting ballistic missiles, at a time when Patriot systems are becoming increasingly difficult to procure. The company is negotiating with European partners to launch this system by 2027, and international interest, including a possible investment of hundreds of millions of dollars from the United Arab Emirates, suggests a potential major impact on the global air defense balance.
These days, Fire Point is facing challenges in procuring Patriot systems, which often require multiple expensive interceptor missiles. Shtilerman, the company's representative, stated that the new system could reduce the cost of interception to under 1 million dollars per missile, which would radically change the air defense landscape. Fire Point, established after Russia's invasion, is already known for the production of drones and long-range missiles, including the FP5 Flamingo missile.
Additionally, the company is exploring opportunities in the space sector, considering an investment from Edge Group from the United Arab Emirates for the construction of a launch terminal. The project is in the conceptual phase, but is already attracting interest from Gulf states for the acquisition of its drones. Fire Point announced that it can produce up to 2,500 drones per month and that it will increase the production of the Flamingo missile with the introduction of a new internal engine.
