The counter-attack was announced by the Russian military, which said the Ukrainian army's assault group was defeated by artillery and air force. Ukrainian officials confirmed the attack without giving details. The offensive comes shortly after Donald Trump's return to the White House and five months after Ukraine's first successful cross-border attack.
