The investigation was launched in the context of preparations for winter, when the energy sector is facing Russian attacks and power outages. NABU has identified a high-level criminal organization, led by a businessman, which includes a former advisor to the Minister of Energy and other officials. They allegedly forced Energoatom contractors to pay illegal commissions of 10-15% to avoid payment blockages. Following the searches, NABU gathered substantial evidence, including 1,000 hours of interceptions.
President Zelensky has called for cooperation from officials with NABU to combat corruption. Meanwhile, the opposition has initiated procedures to dismiss the cabinet of ministers, signaling increasing political challenges. The Minister of Energy has promised a transparent investigation to restore the trust of international partners.
