On Monday, Ukraine signed a letter of intent to purchase up to 100 Rafale fighter jets from France, during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron. The document underscores Ukraine's intention to enhance its defense capabilities, in the context of the intensifying Russian bombings on energy infrastructure.
This is Zelensky's ninth visit to Paris since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022. The agreement, which spans a ten-year horizon, includes not only the Rafale jets but also SAMP-T air defense systems, radar systems, and drones. The signing took place in a solemn setting on the runway of Villacoublay military airport, highlighting France's commitment to military support for Ukraine.
