Ukraine announced that its drones attacked a Lukoil oil platform and a FSB patrol boat in the Caspian Sea, marking an escalation of the campaign of attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the attack took place on Friday and damaged a drilling platform associated with Lukoil, which had been the target of previous attacks in December.
Ukraine considers Russian oil infrastructure a legitimate target, given that oil revenues financially support Russia's war. A military patrol boat was also targeted, and damage assessment is currently underway. Ukraine's campaign of attacks on Russian refineries and oil infrastructure has intensified in recent weeks, including attacks in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
