On the night of April 18, 2025, Ukraine launched an attack on Russian oil infrastructure, targeting facilities in Crimea and the Samara region, according to The Kyiv Independent. Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Sevastopol, causing explosions and a fire in the port area. Mikhail Razvozhayev, the leader of the city occupied by Russians, reported that a downed drone hit a tanker, without recording any casualties.
On the same night, a fire was also reported at the refinery in Novokuibyshevsk, in Samara. Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, is frequently targeted by Ukrainian attacks, while the Samara region is important for the Russian military-industrial complex. In recent months, Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian oil infrastructure to reduce the oil revenues that support Russia's war effort.
