Sir Keir Starmer announces the construction of 12 nuclear-powered attack submarines to replace Astute-class submarines as part of a strategic defense review. These submarines will be operational from the 2030s and will be part of a new nuclear deterrence strategy. The government will invest £15bn in the nuclear warhead program amid growing threats from Russia. Although there is talk of increasing defense spending, there is no confirmation of the commitment of 3% of GDP by 2034.
