Turkey has announced the purchase of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from the United Kingdom, in a contract valued at 8 billion pounds (10.7 billion dollars), thus strengthening ties with NATO allies and enhancing air defense. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, on a visit to Turkey, signed the agreement with President Erdogan, calling this moment "historic." Turkey also intends to purchase 12 Typhoon aircraft from Oman and Qatar to meet its immediate needs. Analysts have criticized the price of the deal, considering it "scandalously high" and unprecedented, given that it includes options and training. Turkey is looking to modernize its fleet of fighter jets in the context of regional threats and has previously signed an agreement with the U.S. for 40 F-16 aircraft.
