The statements of American President Donald Trump have generated concerns among European allies, who view his intentions with skepticism. In an interview, Trump acknowledged that his ambition to control Greenland might be more important than maintaining NATO, suggesting that the transatlantic alliance has no value without U.S. involvement.

He also stated that he does not feel constrained by international law, but only by his own conscience.

Reactions from Europe were swift, with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warning that a U.S. military attack on Greenland could lead to the end of NATO. French President Emmanuel Macron criticized Washington for drifting away from allies and international rules. Trump expressed doubts about NATO's commitment to support the U.S. in times of crisis, although he emphasized that Washington will continue to support its partners.
