Donald Trump threatens NATO after he asked allied states for help to secure the Strait of Hormuz: "If there is no response or if the response is negative, I believe it will be very bad for the future of NATO."

Donald Trump warned, in an interview with the Financial Times, that NATO faces a "very bad future" if allies do not support the U.S. in the context of tensions with Iran.

The American president emphasized that Europe and China depend on oil from the Gulf and called for their help to unlock the crucial strait, closed by Iran. Trump mentioned that he might postpone the summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping due to the situation, stressing that it is essential for allies to contribute resources, including warships.

Trump also invoked U.S. support in the war in Ukraine: "We shouldn't have helped them regarding Ukraine. ... Now we will see if they help us. Because I have long said that we will be there for them, but they will not be there for us."
