In a phone interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump emphasized that Mexico is dominated by drug cartels, stating that the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, does not control the situation.
Trump mentioned that he has proposed several times for the American military to intervene in Mexico to combat drug trafficking, but Sheinbaum has rejected this option.
He highlighted the severe impact of drugs on the United States, where hundreds of thousands of people die from consumption, most of them coming from Mexico. Trump classified drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and imposed tariffs on Mexican exports in response to fentanyl trade.
Although Sheinbaum's government has offered cooperation in combating drug trafficking, he emphasized that Mexico's territorial sovereignty must be respected.
