The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has decided to suspend most of the traffic stops conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), following the deaths of two individuals involved in incidents with agents.
The decision comes after Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 26-year-old Colombian, was fatally shot in Maine while he was in his car. Additionally, another incident occurred in Texas, where an ICE agent fatally shot a Mexican, provoking a wave of criticism against the agency. These events have amplified the controversies surrounding ICE's actions, which have been perceived as aggressive, especially after a similar incident in Minneapolis.
In recent weeks, arrests made by ICE have significantly increased, reaching approximately 70 per day in Maine.
