President Donald Trump proposed renaming New York's Penn Station and Washington's Dulles International Airport after himself, in exchange for unlocking federal funds for the Gateway project, which aims to build new rail tunnels under the Hudson River. The proposal was addressed to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who rejected it, thus prolonging the financial deadlock. The project, estimated at 16 billion dollars, risks being suspended without funding.

Democrats' reactions were vehement, with criticism directed at Trump, who was accused of extortion and using infrastructure as a bargaining tool. Additionally, Trump and his allies have supported initiatives to rename several institutions after himself, which has generated controversy.
