President Donald Trump expressed his frustrations regarding the maintenance of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the internal divisions within the Iranian leadership, which hinder progress in nuclear negotiations. Iran's recent response was labeled by Trump as "totally unacceptable" and "stupid," raising concerns among American officials about Tehran's seriousness in negotiations.

Within the administration, there are differing opinions on the approach towards Iran, with some officials, including those from the Pentagon, proposing a more aggressive tactic, while others advocate for genuine diplomacy. Close to Trump, some argue that Pakistani mediators should communicate the president's dissatisfaction more firmly. Despite external pressures, Iran seems to ignore calls to engage seriously in negotiations. Trump had a meeting with the national security team to discuss options, but a major decision is expected not to be made before his trip to China.
