U.S. President Donald Trump was interrupted several times on Wednesday evening during a rally held in San Antonio, Texas. Around ten people were escorted out of the event, according to local media reports cited by Reuters and AFP.
Trump called the protesters “paid protesters” and told them to leave, while his supporters booed those being escorted out and chanted “U.S.A.!”. One of the protesters reportedly filmed himself while being escorted outside, while another person was wearing a T-shirt bearing the message “SOS Cuba”.
The rally is part of a series of events organized by Trump to mobilize Republican voters ahead of November’s midterm elections. The vote is considered challenging for the Republican Party, which risks losing its majority in both chambers of Congress, according to several polls.
The cost of living and rising fuel prices have been central themes of the campaign. Trump also reiterated a proposal to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans took control of one of the chambers of Congress. He urged voters to support the party’s candidates, mentioning Texas’s early voting schedule.
