On Wednesday, President Donald Trump stated that he likes inflation, in the context where the consumer price index reached an annual rate of 4.2%, the highest level in the last three years. Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump predicted that inflation would decrease significantly once the conflict with Iran comes to an end. He mentioned that the U.S. "confiscates" oil and ships, but the details of his statements were unclear. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that he has no information about oil extraction from Iran, thus contradicting Trump's claims.
Asked in the Oval Office if he is concerned about rising inflation, Trump responded that the data has been "great" and insisted that prices will drop quickly after the end of the conflict between the United States and Iran.
"No, I like it. The numbers have been excellent. You know what I really like? I like inflation," Trump said.
