Donald Trump harshly criticized the Federal Reserve Board after the interest rate hike decided on Wednesday, during an election rally held in North Carolina for the midterm elections. The American president accused the board members of being “highly politicized” and of trying to politically undermine his position.

“They are raising interest rates to make Trump do as poorly as possible,” he said, repeating that interest rates are too high. Trump argued that they should be reduced to 1% or even lower, because the United States represents “the best credit in the world.”

Earlier, in a message posted on Truth Social, the president had called on the Federal Reserve to quickly reduce interest rates to counteract the effects of the recent decision.

Trump stated that he had spoken with Kevin Warsh, recently appointed to a leadership position at the Fed, before the vote on interest rates. He reportedly told him that his vote would not change the outcome, but insisted that he wanted Warsh to remain independent. Asked whether he still trusted him, Trump answered affirmatively.
