Donald Trump endorses Alexander Kolodin, a 40-year-old Republican, for Arizona secretary of state, a position that plays a central role in organizing and certifying elections in the state. Kolodin is running in Tuesday’s midterm elections, and the outcome could influence how the 2028 presidential elections are administered.
Trump portrays his protégé as a “warrior for election integrity,” although the Republican billionaire continues to refuse to acknowledge his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. In that election, Joe Biden defeated Trump in Arizona by approximately 10,000 votes.
After the 2020 election, Trump relied on Kolodin in an attempt to challenge and invalidate the result in Arizona. If elected secretary of state, Kolodin would oversee electoral processes in the state and certify the results of the 2028 presidential election.
Trump has repeatedly joked about his intention to run for a third term, although the United States Constitution prohibits this. In October, he described Kolodin in an ironic note, saying that a secretary of state should look “a little nerdy.”
