The Donald Trump administration has announced significant changes in immigration policy, affecting foreign students and journalists. According to the new rules, students will be able to remain in the United States for a maximum of four years, while accredited journalists will receive visas valid for only 240 days, with the option of renewal. These measures, which will come into effect in 60 days unless blocked in Congress, significantly reduce the duration of visas compared to the current system. Chinese journalists will face even more restrictions, with visas limited to 90 days.

Press organizations, including Reporters Without Borders, have criticized these measures, arguing that they will negatively impact press freedom and the quality of reporting on the U.S. The administration justifies the decision on security grounds, citing an increase in the number of entries on student visas. This measure aligns with the immigration enforcement policy promoted by Trump, which has also included expedited deportations of illegal immigrants.
