U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his “full and total support” on Sunday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, less than ten days before Israel’s parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 27. The message was posted on the Truth Social platform amid the war with Iran and regional tensions.
Trump said that any Israeli leader other than Netanyahu would be the wrong choice and argued that Iran would have sooner or later carried out its threats against the United States and Israel. The U.S. president described Netanyahu as a “great warrior premier” and an important partner for peace.
In his message to the Israeli people, Trump said Netanyahu is “the kind of partner” the United States expects from Israel. He warned that, in the event of another leader, America would have to manage the situation alone—something he said he was not inclined to do.
Trump has publicly supported Netanyahu since 2013. The two last met in the summer at the White House. Their relationship had nevertheless become strained over the past year following Israeli operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, which Trump believed had undermined Washington-led peace efforts.
