The President of the USA, Donald Trump, announced a 10% increase in tariffs on goods imported from Canada, in response to the airing of an anti-tariff advertisement in the province of Ontario, which quotes former President Ronald Reagan. Trump called the advertisement 'a fraud' and criticized Canadian authorities for not pulling it before the World Series games. The decision comes after Trump suspended trade negotiations with Canada, unhappy with the advertising campaign funded by the Ontario provincial government.
Premier Doug Ford announced that he will stop airing the campaign, but it will continue over the weekend. Canadian Minister of Trade, Dominic LeBlanc, emphasized Ottawa's commitment to maintaining a constructive dialogue with Washington. Canada, which exports 75% of its goods to the USA, is already facing high tariffs, and the new increase will add to them.
