Canada will introduce new customs tariffs starting September 8, with levels set at 15%, 25%, and 50%.

These measures come in response to threats from President Donald Trump, who announced an increase in tariffs on cars and oil to 50%. Tariffs on products such as oil, aluminum, furniture, and clothing will double from 25% to 50%, while appliances, dairy products, and fish will be taxed at 25%. Canada has allocated a support package of 5.4 billion dollars to assist affected companies.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne stated that Ottawa did not want this conflict, but must respond to economic pressure. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly encouraged Canadians to buy local products to protect jobs.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Ottawa will respond with tariffs of 20 billion dollars on American products.
