Canada has decided to impose tariffs of 20 billion dollars on American products, in response to the 50% tariff increase announced by Donald Trump on cars, auto parts, and Canadian-imported cheese. These new tariffs will come into effect on January 1, 2027, and will affect automobiles, auto components, and Canadian cheese.

Canada has stated that it will apply a 'dollar for dollar' approach, imposing countervailing duties on cheese, dairy products, household appliances, and other American goods. This measure comes after the failure of trade negotiations and adds to the existing tariffs on cheese, aluminum, and lumber from Canada. American imports, valued at approximately 28 billion Canadian dollars, will be subject to tariffs ranging from 15% to 50%, set to take effect at midnight on September 8.
