This statement was made aboard Air Force One, highlighting the seriousness with which the American administration is addressing the situation. At the same time, Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Shah of Iran, called on Iranian security forces to join the protesters, warning them that choosing to support the government would bring them shame. Pahlavi urged that Iranian embassies abroad be adorned with the national flag from the monarchy period, instead of that of the Islamic Republic.

Protests in Iran have led to over a hundred deaths, and concerns about violent repression are growing as the mobilization against the government becomes larger.
