The President of the USA, Donald Trump, stated that starting Monday, the United States will launch "Project Freedom," a mission aimed at guiding the ships of countries not involved in the conflict in the Middle East out of the Strait of Hormuz, which is blocked.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump emphasized that the mission targets the ships of "neutral and innocent parties" and assured that every effort will be made to safely release the ships and their crews. Although he mentioned ongoing peace negotiations, Trump clarified that the action to free the ships is distinct and has a humanitarian purpose, considering that these ships are victims of circumstances. It is unclear whether the action has been coordinated with Iran, which controls the Strait of Hormuz and has restricted maritime traffic since the beginning of the conflict. Donald Trump warned that any interference in this humanitarian process could require a military response.
