Israeli and Arab press reported explosions in the Strait of Hormuz, and the Fars agency, close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), announced that the Iranian armed forces launched missiles from the southern regions of the country. Although the exact targets are not known, there are fears of escalation of the conflict in the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian army stated that the explosions were the result of a gunfire exchange with ships that violated maritime rules. The Tasnim agency confirmed that the sounds of the explosions were related to warning shots fired at four ships attempting to cross the strait without coordination. Information suggests that the missiles were launched from the Shahid Shamran base in Bushehr province. Iran also claimed to have shot down an American MQ9 drone.
